Connecticut to Massachusetts Section Hike

The geographic names for this section of trail are

- The Berkshires: As you head north from Connecticut into Massachusetts, you enter the Berkshire region. Thru-hikers and locals broadly refer to the Massachusetts section as hiking "The Berkshires"

- The Taconic Range: The actual border area itself—where you climb over Bear Mountain (CT's highest peak) and drop into Sage’s Ravine before climbing Mount Race and Mount Everett in Massachusetts—is part of the South Taconic Range.

Trail angel dropped me off on the north side of Guinea Brook. apparently that could be a tough water crossing after the recent storms

Storm damage. What the heck am I getting myself into...

My timing had worked out well with me getting off trail in NYC for the eye of the storm and I heard form the other hiker Tramily that it was rough with them on trail during this. Other hikers on FarOut had reported near misses with falling trees while camping. On my day 2 a large section of the trail south of Salisbury was actually closed with the storm damage. I would have to modify my plan

Overlooking a car racing venue in the rural area

Getting onto the main roads showed actually how serious the storm was. I saw trucks from at least 5 different nearby states hauling logs out of the area and fixing powerlines

This lady would open her home to hikers. She has since passed away and her grandson inherited the house and now runs a hostel

I was happy to have got a hiking pad from the hiker box at the hostel. I had left mine on the inbound train from NYC and spent the first night in the shelter on the wood platform. It slept 6 and 5 other hikers from the tramily were there and they were reluctant to make room for me lol
