Hiking Shek O Beach to D'Aguillar Peak and Windy Gap
My first 2 days upon landing in Hong Kong
Lots going on in the city. These two level trams and buses were a great way to get around and have a good view of everything.
Peering to Hong Kong Island. This helicopter was flying back and forth throughout the morning.
Green spaces are nice because they provide a straight forward route to walk through the city. Hong Kong is not a walk able city due to all the overpasses and limited crosswalks. Finding a bus stop near busy streets is especially challenging.
Kowloon Park
McDonald's advertisement
The tomato noodle soup with egg and Hong Kong milk tea was on special
One of the first views I had upon exiting the MTR at Kawloon Station
King's Street
Where I stayed for the first couple nights. A bustling place in North Point with lots of convenience stores and quick eats options.
Sunrise bus ride after gaining elevation near Tai Tam Gap
Glimpse of Shek O Beach from the highway
Bus #9 Terminus
Apparently this place can get busy on weekends but very chill mid week since there are no hotels and the locals and expats who live there don't support holiday rentals
Sunrise swim
D'Aguillar Peak
This is the hiking route
Tin Hau Temple
Found a store with some snacks
The start of the trail was very difficult to find. These symbols mark that you are on the right path. You are also walking through a cemetery perched on bluffs. There is a restaurant or house at the beach level which blocks the trail and the owner was confused what I was doing but understood that I was looking for the trail. He said it starts in the water way which was full of water and I found a way across it at some deteriorating building with a sign for government building which was playing music that indicated someone was inside but I scurried past since I was worried about the possibility of trespassing. I was unable to find a route that connected to the GPS trail on my first 2 attempts. 1 lead to a gate which I don't think lead anywhere and the other got way too overgrown. You will find it if you can get permission to travel through or alongside the house on the beach.
The whole route uphill was very overgrown
Not something I can keen to do again but glad I made the effort
Ng Fan Chou
Island Bay
This flagger in the forest apparently translates to "The whereabouts of old friends in Hong Kong"
The radio station on the summit
A scenic and steep descent
Hok Tsui Tsuen Upper Village
War bunker?
Bluff Head
It was HOT and sun exposed most of the way up
Back in the city
I did not make it as far as I had hoped on the hike !
Finding the goods in the window. Amazing food and chill vibes
