Chilko Lake Bike Tour

Chilko Lake on the Chilcotin Plateau is the largest high elevation lake in British Columbia and one of the largest lakes by volume in the province because of its great depth. Ever since traveling to Bella Coola, I saw Ts'lyos Provincial Park on the map and wanted to explore this area. My car is not capable on anything except asphalt so this leaned me towards an overnight bike tour. After passing many black bears at Heckman Pass, I left my car in the small town of Tatla Lake, which serves as the halfway point between Bella Coola and Williams Lake on highway 20. There is a motel and the owners are really nice people.

My YouTube video has more information:

My trip plan was (day 1) biking to the Chilko River Campground (day 2) hiking to the summit of Tullin mountain (day 3) biking back to my car in Tatla Lake. I was navigating with the Caribou Chilcotin Coast Backroads map and a Garmin GPS. My route followed dirt roads away from Tatla Lake and included 3 main junctions (1) South on Tatlayoko Road (2) East along Henry's Crossing (3) South on Chilko Lake Road into Ts'lyos Provincial Park. My return trip was slightly different after getting information from some locals about an old wagon road that brings you to a recreation site at Choelquoit Lake before merging with the Henry's Crossing / Chilko Lake Road junction again. Shoot me a message and I can forward you my GPS track.
